Having agreed on a peace accord recently that ceased the seemingly endless guerrilla state of war, this South American country, somewhat smaller than the state of Kentucky, seems to be transforming into the next travel destination with a huge flurry of tourism. No longer just for the student traveler, tourists from many countries visit South America for its promise of colorful diversity, plentiful tales of folklore, natural marvels, Semana Santa celebrations and Spanish language learning.

All kinds of travelers observe themselves beginning off their trip with Antigua as their hub. Antigua is maybe one of the only exciting colonial cities in South America, and from there international study abroad students can soak up the many trips that allow people to fall in love. This quaint and relaxed untouched city, found in a valley next to 3 volcanoes, Agua, Acatenango and Fuego, provides ruined and restored temples, a pleasant range of typical restaurants, lively bars, tons of shopping, and the relaxed central plaza. South America and especially, Antigua, is known for its reasonably priced and many Spanish language schools that attract travelers who desire to take an educational vacation to learn Spanish.

While in Guatemala, it is highly advised that one Investigate their Spanish centers, where there are several chances for study abroad participants, young and old, to study Spanish, volunteer in the a variety of social, educational and healthcare administrations in need, take part in host families with local Guatemalan families, enjoy the schools after class entertainment, and get together with the other students for excursions, salsa dancing or a beer.

While Antigua is known to some as the Spanish school capital of Central America with as a lot of people it pulls in. The Spanish language is the official language of Guatemala but there are nearly different Mayan languages.



On the other hand, no trip to Guatemala would be worthwhile without a trip to the marvelous Mayan pyramids of Tikal, in the north of the country. Get ready to enjoy some of the leading archeological wonders in the world even though the bulk of the structures remain unexcavated. Tikal, the largest and possibly the oldest of the Mayan cities, has a a couple of of skyscraper like temples extending toward the world, beyond the lush jungle canopy. However the temples and jungle growth are not adequate, Tikal exhibits an excellent opportunity for animal and bird watching.

Traveling in Guatemala is an adventure in and of itself. Find yourself on a “chicken bus” and you are sure to learn Spanish in a brightly colored language lab. These brightly painted recycled U.S. school buses overflowing with religious artifacts and loud, festive music take local Guatemalans and visitors in and out of Antigua. Stopping anyplace a person wants to get on or off, there are always people jammed into the small seats and aisles. This makes studying the Spanish language a must.
